High Rises
These two vertical panoramas are a reflection of two halves of my life. The first, taken on my in-laws property in rural mid-Michigan, represents my love of quiet open space, fostered by my childhood in a similar part of the state. The second, taken from my parking garage at the end of a work day, represents my love of Detroit, where I’ve worked, lived, and worshiped for the last 7 years. My wife and I would often visit her parents and spend weeks at time there in 2020 when she was pregnant with our first child, finding respite from a city that felt empty and restricted because of lockdown. In the summer of 2022 when I took these images, I felt that life had finally returned in full force and all the things we loved about living here were back again.
