Echoes of Third Grade

from $50.00

“In 2001, I was 8 years old. A home schooled third grader who upon waking up and seeing the news, had no category or capability to use in processing what I was seeing. That whole day my family watched the news as things got worse and worse. I’d like to say I was too young to be affected, but reading through a summary of those events as I write this, it’s clear what an indelible mark has been left.

Visiting New York this past summer afforded me an opportunity to see One World Trade Center and the memorial for the first time. While photographing the architecture, the clouds arranged themselves in such a way that when I first viewed this picture in black and white, I immediately saw something like the images from 2001, but completely different at the same time. Almost exactly 20 years later, America has in so many ways rebuilt, moved on and recovered while also ensuring the day and the people killed would never be forgotten.

I’m not a New Yorker nor first responder. I didn’t serve in any of the subsequent wars that followed. At the time, I was just an 8 year old, confused and incapable of understanding what was really going on. The opportunity to stand in that place as an adult helped me to process just a little bit, to better understand that piece of my childhood which reshaped my world without my knowing.”

This fine art print is available in four sizes:
8x12 (Open Edition)
12x18 (Open Edition)
16x24 (Limited Edition of 50)
24x36 (Limited Edition of 10)

Each work is Giclée, printed on the best fine art paper available using archival inks.

Open editions are unsigned with a one inch matte, so framing sizes will be two inches larger in each dimension (an 8x12 print will need a 10x14 frame).

Limited editions are signed, numbered, with a one inch border and one inch matt (a 16x24 print will need a 20x28 frame).

All framing is done professionally with Museum Glass to ensure the clearest presentation possible. If you have specific requests for custom framing (single/double matte, frame type, etc.), include that information at checkout. Otherwise, all framing will by default be with a one inch border, one inch matte, and a clean black wood frame.
